Health and Safety policy
Movers Lambeth Health and Safety Policy
Movers Lambeth is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors and customers. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks arising from our removal and relocation activities, including residential moves, commercial moves, packing, loading, transport and storage-related tasks.
Policy Statement
The management of Movers Lambeth recognises its duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of everyone who may be affected by our operations. We aim to prevent accidents, work-related injuries and ill health by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective controls. Health and safety is an integral part of how we plan and deliver all moving services.
We will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and any other applicable requirements. We will provide appropriate resources, training, equipment and supervision to ensure that work is carried out safely and responsibly at all times.
Objectives
Our health and safety objectives are to:
Reduce the risk of accidents, injuries and near misses during all removal and handling activities.
Promote safe manual handling practices for lifting, carrying, loading and unloading furniture and goods.
Ensure vehicles, lifting aids and equipment used in our moving operations are safe, suitable and properly maintained.
Encourage a positive safety culture in which everyone takes responsibility for their own safety and that of others.
Continuously improve our health and safety performance through monitoring, review and staff involvement.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management of Movers Lambeth. Management will ensure that this policy is implemented, maintained and reviewed regularly and that adequate arrangements are in place to manage health and safety risks.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for day-to-day implementation of this policy. This includes carrying out and reviewing risk assessments, planning work safely, providing information and training, and ensuring that safe systems of work are followed at all times.
Employees are required to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Follow training, instructions and safe working procedures at all times.
Use equipment, tools, vehicles and personal protective equipment correctly and report any defects immediately.
Report accidents, incidents, near misses or unsafe conditions without delay.
Cooperate with managers and supervisors on all health and safety matters.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Movers Lambeth will carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all key activities, including packing, moving and transporting household and office items. These assessments will consider hazards such as manual handling, slips and trips, falls, vehicle movements, use of equipment and working in customers premises.
Control measures and safe systems of work arising from risk assessments will be communicated to employees and reviewed regularly. Staff must follow these agreed procedures carefully and never take shortcuts that may compromise safety.
Manual Handling and Lifting
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and presents significant risk if not managed properly. To minimise the risk of injury, Movers Lambeth will:
Provide manual handling training for all staff involved in lifting and moving items.
Encourage the use of team lifting and mechanical aids such as trolleys, dollies and lifting straps where appropriate.
Plan moves to avoid unnecessary carrying, awkward routes and obstacles.
Ensure employees assess the weight, size and shape of items before lifting and use proper lifting techniques.
Use of Vehicles and Driving Safety
Our vehicles are essential to providing removal services and must be operated safely at all times. We will ensure that vehicles are regularly inspected, serviced and maintained. Drivers must hold the correct licence, follow road traffic laws, and adhere to company procedures on loading, securing loads, route planning and rest breaks.
Loads must be evenly distributed and properly secured before vehicles move off. Drivers and crew must take extra care when operating in residential streets, near pedestrians, and when reversing or manoeuvring in confined areas.
Equipment, Tools and Personal Protective Equipment
Movers Lambeth will provide suitable equipment for moving and handling tasks, and employees must use it in accordance with training and instructions. Any equipment found to be damaged or defective must be removed from use and reported immediately.
Where necessary, personal protective equipment such as safety footwear, gloves or high-visibility clothing will be provided. Employees must wear and look after this equipment and report any loss or damage.
Working in Customers Premises
Our teams regularly work inside customers homes, offices and shared spaces. Staff must respect these environments and ensure they are kept as safe as possible throughout the move. This includes keeping walkways clear, using protective coverings where required and preventing trip hazards from tools, packaging and equipment.
Staff should communicate clearly with customers about any safety concerns, such as obstructed access routes, fragile surfaces or limited parking that could affect safe loading and unloading.
Training, Information and Supervision
Movers Lambeth is committed to ensuring that all employees have the knowledge and skills needed to work safely. Induction training will cover general health and safety, emergency procedures and company rules. Job-specific training, including manual handling, use of equipment and vehicle safety, will be provided as required.
Ongoing refresher training and toolbox talks will be carried out to keep safety standards high and address any emerging risks. Supervisors will monitor working practices and provide guidance and correction where necessary.
Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, near misses and cases of work-related ill health must be reported promptly. This allows us to investigate, identify causes and take corrective action to prevent recurrence. Where required, incidents will be reported to the relevant authorities in line with legal requirements.
Emergency procedures will be in place for fire, serious injury, vehicle incidents and other foreseeable emergencies. Employees must familiarise themselves with these procedures and follow instructions given in an emergency.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
Movers Lambeth will monitor health and safety performance through inspections, audits, incident reports and staff feedback. This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, guidance or company operations.
We encourage all employees to contribute ideas for improving health and safety and to raise any concerns with management. By working together, we can provide a safe, reliable and professional removal service for all our customers.
